Feburary Birthstone - Amethyst

Amethyst is the birthstone for February. It is a crystalline quartz gemstone in shades of purple, lilac or mauve.  The word amethyst comes from Greek, meaning "without drunkenness" and amethyst was worn as a guard against drunkenness and to instill a sober mind. It is thought the amethyst is the perfect stone to symbolize The Age of Aquarius.

Amethyst is the birthstone for those people born in the month of January or February and for Pisces (those born between February 21 – March 20), particularly those who many wish to obtain professional advancement and long life. It ensures them material and financial gains.

Locations: Amethyst is found in alluvial deposits or in geodes. Some of the largest geodes containing amethyst are in Brazil. Amethyst from the Urals (Russia) has a reddish tinge; Canadian amethyst is violet. Other locations include Sri Lanka, India, Uruguay, Madagascar, USA, Germany, Australia, Namibia and Zambia, Uruguay, Mexico, Western Australia, and Morocco.
